Shrewsbury woman organizes March 31 comedy night for Easter

Nevertheless, she and another volunteer squeegeed three fields, set out bases, put up the reception tables and before long, the teams started arriving — in the rain.
“This is why I continue to volunteer to work with Easter Seals,” Mitchell said. “It’s the dedication of not only the staff, but of all the amazing people who sign up for the fundraising events and then show up … no matter what.”
The longtime Shrewsbury resident has been a loyal Easter Seals volunteer ever since that rainy day in the spring of 1982. Her involvement has spread to other fundraising events for the organization, including everything from volleyball tournaments to dances.
In the last 14 years alone, Mitchell has raised close to $17,000 for the Worcester-based organization, which provides services that open the door to equal opportunities for children and adults with disabilities to live, learn, work and play.
Easter Seals services annually benefit more than 17,000 people with disabilities, as well as their families, teachers and employers, all across Massachusetts, including more than 150 clients in Shrewsbury and 1,850 in Worcester County.
On March 31, Mitchell and her team of Ron Mitchell, Mary Kennedy, Mike Kennedy, Maryjane St. Francis, Janet Wagner, Lisa Wagner, and Cristi and Caitlyn Cronin will be sponsoring a Comedy Night for Easter Seals at SAC Park, 438 Lake St.
The event starts at 6 p.m. and features comedians Jerry Caruso, Rick Cormier, Dennis Wirth, Kristin O’Brien, Rich McCabe and Colleen McCauley Coughlan. Caitlyn Cronin, an Easter Seals client, also will give a special presentation.
Comedy Night tickets cost $20 and may be reserved by calling (508) 753-8804 or (508) 865-2655.
Mitchell and her team will put the Comedy Night proceeds toward their participation in Easter Seals Walk With Me on June 6 at Quinsigamond State Park in Worcester. To join the walk team call (508) 753-8804.
